IT'S DEJU VU ALL OVER IN CABONARGI'S JUDGESHIP COMEBACK
Ignorance is bliss and blessed are those who expect nothing for they shall not be disappointed. Cook County’s 5.19 million residents and 3,139,913 registered voters (RVs) are blissfully ignorant of how their judicial system works, how judges are made and how difficult and costly it is to get on the bench. That’s because more than 95 percent of Cook Countians never commit crimes and interact with the criminal justice system and/or are never victims of torts and get involved in civil litigation. But if they do there’s a judge on the bench who decides your fate. How and why they got there never occurs to anybody. They are just there. Supreme Court justices bank $298,910 annually, appellate court judges make $281,331, circuit court judges $258,158 and associate judges $245,250, according to Illinois Courts. Those judges were neither the worst of the worst nor the best of the best. They were lawyers weary of the rigors of a law practice and chasing clients to get paid or career prosecutors/public defenders eager to advance (and pad their pension). A judge’s workload is not especially onerous, with 5 week’s paid vacation, all holidays off, and health benefits for life. They simply knew how to game the system and paid the price – which is $45,000 to county Democrats (CCDP) to be slated. That buys 10,000 petition signatures, your name on the March 17 primary sample ballot, media advertising and a mailing into every Democratic household. Cabonargi was appointed to Joe Berrios’s Board of Review vacancy in 2010. He got defeated in 2022 by an unknown woman (Samantha Steele) despite his stellar record as a BOR commissioner in a district encompassing the literate North Shore suburbs and north Lakefront. 2026 looms as déjà vu all over. COOK COUNTY DEMOCRATS TOSS KAEGI, STEELE INTO DUMPSTER AT SLATEMAKING, DEMOTE DAVIS
As Monty Python’s John Cleese famously quipped, “And now for something completely different.” Instead of criticizing, satirizing and mocking Democrats at all levels, especially in Cook County, for their arrogance, incompetence and corruption, I'm going to praise them for a change. I’m going to heap praise on Cook County Democrats’ epic non-Woke/Left, non-Trump-bashing performance at their July 17-18 slate making. They were laser-focused on winning, not whining. It was all-business. Whomever the Dems slate usually will get elected to the countywide offices on the 2026 ballot. So there was a very strict candidate criterion: No Losers. No Ingrates. No Drunks. No Commies. No Retreads. No Moochers. This was county chair Toni Preckwinkle’s show and the party was more concerned about loyalty and electability and less obsessed about identity this time around. Outgoing state Comptroller Susana Mendoza possesses no shortage of hubris. But she has integrity. She publicly stated she would not run in 2026 if she decided to run for Chicago mayor in 2027. She kept that promise and did not seek reelection. She has not formally announced a mayoral bid. ASSESSOR: Kaegi is the last victim of COVID. The pandemic totally changed the workplace culture: Employees need not work in an office. TRUMP'S SUCCESS INFURTIATES DEMOCRATS, LEFTISTS WITH TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME
It is said, quite accurately, that if you are young and not a liberal then you have no heart. I know that for a fact. When I was young I had no heart. I was a liberal. The corollary is that if you are old and still a liberal /progressive with a heart then you may have no brains. I think I had brains. Greed and selfishness eventually prevailed. That’s human nature and reality – unless you’re a Socialist. Then the world is a fantasy. But there is a humungous aberration – namely: those afflicted with Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS). This is an utterly incurable lifelong non-fatal disease that robs the victim’s existence of all joy and insures daily misery. Every day that Donald Trump is president – and about 1,280 remain – is abject pain and suffering. The diagnoses of TDS (or its root causes) range from neurotic to psychotic to pathological. A neurotic is defined as somebody with acute anxiety, compulsions, obsessions and/or depression – who’s totally fixated on themselves and their (horrific) world perception. That sounds right. A psychotic is somebody totally detached from reality, mentally disorganized and functionally impaired. That also sounds about right. And pathological – as in sociopath or pathological liar – is somebody driven by compulsion, who knows not right from wrong nor true from false but only what is good or bad for themself. NEW YORK CITY SOCIALIST MAMDANI IS NOT SURE BET TO BE ELECTED MAYOR
An old adage states that if you are young and not a liberal then you have no heart, and if you are old and still a liberal then you have no brain. As demonstrated in New York City in the June 24 Democratic mayoral primary, if you are young and socialist and voted for Zohran Mamdani then you think you have a brain and if you are older/old and wealthy and voted for Mamdani then you have no brain. Mamdani, a 33-year old Socialist whose critics have said is an anti-Semitic, pro-Palestinian, pro-Hamas supporter of a global Intifada, which calls for people from around the globe to participate in rising up against Israel, won the primary (see CHART) 432,305-361,840 over ex-governor Andrew Cuomo getting 43.5 percent. He won by promising a whole lot of free stuff to everybody who doesn’t have stuff to be paid for by everybody who has already earned some wealth to accumulate a lot of stuff. That is the very essence of Socialism/Marxism/Communism. Mamdani, who has no executive experience, promises (1) rent control, (2) defunding the police and replacing NYPD street officers with social workers, (3) no cash bail (already a state law) and emptying prisons, (4) fighting private healthcare insurance, (5) maintaining NYC as a Sanctuary City, which costs $5 billion annually and also no co-operation with ICE and Trump, (6) free daycare, (7) free needles and injection sites for drug addicts, (8) expanding gender-affirming care, (9) free abortion and contraceptives, (10) grocery stores run by the city with price controls, (11) a $30-an hour minimum wage and (13) free public transit. I think he forgot about a guaranteed minimum income, maybe 5K a month for every New Yorker? Imagine the cost. That’s next. HURRY UP AND WAIT: Now that governor JB Pritzker (D), has deigned to bless us with the privilege of having him as our governor until 2031, it’s shelter-in-place for every other statewide Democratic officeholder – Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, Attorney General Kwame Raoul, Treasurer Mike Frerichs and Comptroller Susana Mendoza. In other words either run for re-election in 2026 and wait to run for governor in 2030. Or run for Chicago mayor in 2027. And that is exactly what Mendoza, who lives in Portage Park, is likely pondering – which is running against Johnson. Cook County Democratic slatemakers meet July 17-18 to endorse a county and state ticket and Mendoza has promised that if she seeks re-election she will NOT run for mayor. That’s both commendable and astute. Two Democrats are already lusting for her job; Margaret Croke, a former top aide to Pritzker and now a state rep from the Lincoln Park area, and Marcus Evans, a state rep from the South Shore.
