CATANZARA THREATENS ALDERMEN SPOSATO, NAPOLITANO AND GARDINER WITH "CONSEQUENCES"

As vice president, Joe Biden said in 2019 that "Corn Pop" was a "bad dude" who "ran a bunch of bad boys" and that he confronted the gang leader with a chain as a lifeguard at a pool in Delaware in the 1960s. But President Biden is definitely not "Corn Pop" and definitely not a "bad dude." And Chicago Fraternal Order of Police president (FOP) John Catanzara is probably not a "bad dude" either, even if he thinks he is. Catanzara was elected FOP Lodge 7 president in May of 2020, ousting Kevin Graham. Prior to his win he had a reputation as a "blowhard" and a Trump enthusiast unlike the low-keyed Graham. And he's been a thorn in the side of Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot since she was elected. But Catanzara, with CPD detective and state Senate candidate Erin Jones in tow, did go to Alderman Nick Sposato's (38th) office on March 8 to demand that Sposato and fellow Northwest Side aldermen Anthony Napolitano (41st) and Jim Gardiner (45th), who were also present, endorse Jones in her June 28 primary race against incumbent senator Rob Martwick in the Illinois 10th Senate District. The session became rather "heated" as was Napolitano's description. Each alderman - each of whom is a CFD firefighter on-leave - refused to endorse Jones. And, according to Sposato, Catanzara stormed out of the office after promising "consequences" for them in 2023, when they seek re-election.And what are those consequences? Full Article...

NEWMAN'S "PAY-NOT-TO-RUN" PLOY INSURES CASTEN WIN -- AND MAYBE JAIL FOR HER

The phrase “in-and-out” has a bunch of connotations and permutations. It describes a grocery shopping strategy. It also is the name of a West Coast burger chain, among other things. However, in politics it describes the fate of a public official that is elected and then bounced at the next election. U.S. Representative Marie Newman (D-3), the first-term congresswoman from the district which includes Chicago’s Southwest Side and a large swath of southwest and south suburbs, has taken this to a whole new level. She was in Congress in 2020 and will be out of Congress in 2022. Where she goes  afterward is anyone’s guess. Full Article...

'IDENTITY POLITICS' DOMINATES 2022 DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY

The difference between Russian President Vladimir Putin, who wants to "decapitate" the current government in Ukraine, and other politicians, is that the latter only want to defeat their opponents, not dismantle a regime. The Illinois filing period of nominating petitions for state and Cook County office is March 7 to 14 and there is no lack of politicians who are ready to drop the guillotine. On the chopping block for the June 28 Democratic primary is a bunch of White men, including Alexi Giannoulias, Fritz Kaegi, Dan Pogorzelski and three judicial aspirants. Their problem is their gender, since White guys have a historically hard time winning these things these days. Full Article...
