PREDICTIONS: RUNAWAYS LOOM FOR MAYOR, AND IN 39TH AND 47TH WARDS -- AND A GAME-CHANGER IN 40TH WARD

It's a runaway for Chicago mayor. Lori Lightfoot will easily trounce Toni Preckwinkle on 4/2. It will be 300,000-230,000, a 57% win. Preckwinkle will lose all demographic sectors, even among blacks. In the primary, she finished second to Willie Wilson in the black wards. In the 39th Ward, it will be a 2,000-vote win for Sam Nugent. Matt Martin will cruise in the 47th Ward. There's been a game-changer in the 40th Ward, with the  disclosure of "battle rapper" lyrics written and sung by Andre Vasquez, verses deemed "homophobic and misogynistic." Vasquez looked on the verge, but will now lose to Ald. Pat O'Connor. Full Article...

CHICAGO MAYORAL ANALYSIS: LIGHTFOOT WILL BEAT PRECKWINKLE

Losing is not fun, and it is going to be especially ignominious for Chicago aldermen Pat O'Connor (40th) and Deb Mell (33rd) when they are defeated in the 4/2 runoff. The winners will be a pair of "democratic socialists," which makes it more galling. On Feb. 26 O'Connor got 33.2% and Mell got 41.3% -- very unimpressive performances by veteran officeholders. There was a definite trickle-down effect from the mayoral contest, with Lightfoot finishing first in both wards. Plus, in the Trump era, voters are increasingly leftist, and SOCIALISM is not a dirty word. Full Article...

CHICAGO MAYORAL ANALYSIS: LIGHTFOOT WILL BEAT PRECKWINKLE

For the 67% of Chicago's 1.6 million registered voters who DID NOT vote for Lightfoot or Preckwinkle on 2/26, the upcoming 4/2 mayoral runoff is LEAST WORST vs. WORST choice scenario -- and Lightfoot will be the the winner. ATTACHED is a CHART showing primary voting statistics in various wards. Daley lost because dark money from the Operating Engineers tied him to Rauner. Preckwinkle failed to pull her anticipated 20-24% because voters don't want the same old/same old. Joyce took votes away from Daley. Lightfoot is different, and that's what voters want. She will win 58-42%. Full Article...

ARENA'S DEFEAT PRECIPITATES MUCH JOY IN 45TH WARD

"In the 45th Ward there are people who laugh. In the 45th Ward there are children who shout. There is much joy in Chicago's 45th Ward. Because Ald. John Arena has been voted out." In a 2/26 stunner, Arena was ousted 7,542-5,359 by firefgihter Jim Gardiner, who got 50.1%. Arena's mission in life is to de-segregate, and he was obsessed with bringing "affordable housing" to the ward. Voters thought otherwise. Ungracious to the end, Arena said that such housing is a done deal, and he may be back in 2023. It was a blowout in the 41st Ward, where Ald. Anthony Napolitano got over 70%. Robert Murphy pulled a gaffe in the 39th Ward, proclaiming himself the "frontrunner," bu then getting 29%..He will lose to Samantha Nugent in the 4/2 runoff. Aldermen Pat O'Connor (40th) and Deb Mell (33d) got 35% and 41%, doing much poorer than expected, and are in a runoff, as is Jessica Gutierrez, who was favored to oust Ald. Ariel Reboyras (30th).
