"BEST AND BRIGHTEST" ABSENT FROM 2018 DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY FOR COUNTY BOARD PRESIDENT

"Hold your nose, close your eyes; vote for the candidate you least despise." That succinctly summarizes the upcoming 3/20/18 Democratic primary for Cook County board president, which features such loveable luminaries as incumbent Toni Preckwinkle, laughable predecessor Todd Stroger, and 2015 mayoral loser Bob Fioretti -- presuming they get on the ballot. It's definitely not the Best and the Brightest. Stroger's DNA got him the president's job in 2006, after his incumbent dad had a stroke; Preckwinkle got the job in 2010 after promising to rollback the 1% sales tax hike, but then proceeded to reimpose it, and add a 1-cent per ounce tax on soda with sugar. Both Preckwinkle and Stroger are reviled by voters, and Fioretti, who got 7.4% for mayor, is not a credible alternative. Voters will need a clothespin and blindfold when the vote in this contest. "MARGINALIZED" SOCIAL CONSERVATIVES FIELD RAUNER OPPONENT

Here's a totally off-the-wall thought: IL Gov. Bruce Rauner is insufficiently conservative and insufficiently Republican. Say what? Rauner IS the Republican party in Illinois. Without his millions, the party would be even more marginalized than it is now. Remember, Trump lost IL by 944,714 votes, and a Republican has won statewide in just 5 of 30 elections since 2002. Nevertheless, Jeanne Ives, a socially conservative state rep from Wheaton is challenging Rauner in the 3/20/18 Republican primary, ripping the governor's pro-choice stance on abortion, and calling him a RINO -- Republican-In-Name-Only. Being a fiscal conservative, blocking a tax hike for two years, and backing right-to-work IS NOT ENOUGH. Ives will get 30%, which is normal for a social conservative in a Republican primary. "CULTURE OF SPRINGFIELD" ENSNARES SILVERSTEIN, JEOPARDIZES RE-ELECTION

Just as beauty maybe in the mind of the beholder, so is "sexual harassment" entirely in the mind of the accuser -- or, in the case of St. Sen. Ira Silverstein (D-8), entirely within the mind of the state's incoming legislative Inspector General (IG).. A Springfield lobbyist has accused Silverstein of the deed, and has submitted 444 pages of Facebook messages as proof. Most of them are tepid, if not downright foolish. Nevertheless, Silverstein is now Springfield's "Poster Boy" for sexual harassment, even though he clearly does not fall within the parameters of the term -- which is a word or a deed which creates a hostile environment or gives offense, which is rebuffed, and the doer has power over the accuser. Not here. Nevertheless, a lot of politically-correct Democrats are demanding that he resign. The IG's job is to investigate "ethics" complaints against Illinois' 177 state legislators, and that doesn't happen quick. Already, Silverstein has 2 opponents in the 3/20/18 Democratic primary. Unless the IG exonerates Silverstein before the primary, Silverstein will be an ex-senator. Full Article...

NORWOOD PARK TOWNSHIP IS JOBS-R-US LAND

If one has a craving for a well-paying elective office, the place to go is northwest suburban Norwood Park Twp., which includes Norridge and Harwood Heights. The ratio of registered voters to officeholders is a breathtaking 636-1; in Chicago it's 29,632-1. The township, which contains the economically boisterous Harlem Ave. corridor and Harlem-Irving Plaza, is becoming a Republican bastion, hastened by the retirement of Democratic committeeman Martwick. SCORNED QUINN READIES BID FOR IL ATTORNEY GENERAL

As they say, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. And the same applies to politics. Pat Quinn was scorned by Illinois voters when he sought re-election as governor in 2014. losing to Bruce Rauner. But Quinn has spent his life running for -- and usually losing -- public office. Now he's attempting to win the attorney general post being vacated by Lisa Madigan. Against the about-to-be slated Kwame Raoul, and maybe 7 others, Quinn's 40-plus years of name ID may be sufficient to get him nominated on 3/20/18. Full Article...
